Has Holiday Food Left You Blah?
I would be a complete liar if I said I didn’t go a little crazy this season
Baking is actually a hobby of mine and what better excuse then the holidays to get your treat train going
I went a little wild…
Cupcakes for my family at the shelter
Chewy ginger and snickerdoodle cookies for my friends
Sugar cookies decorated with royal icing, the one chance a year I practice
Oh, and I cannot forget the cinnamon raisin bread *hehe*
and of course there were plenty of extras for me to sample…
I mean I have to make sure it’s all good right???
Too Much of a Good Thing
While delicious and delightful it left me feeling like a dough ball myself!
Nothing like a bunch of white flour and sugar to keep you regular am I right ๐
And even though I enjoyed every moment of baked delights I knew it was time to reset and refocus
Remind myself why I am on a weight loss journey and how good it makes me feel when I fuel my body properly
How to Reset your Weight Loss after the Holidays
Today I am going to be sharing what I do when I have overconsumed too much of the junk and want to get my body feeling regular again
Yes, we are going there!
I don’t know about you but I feel so crappy when I get irregular and bloated (pun intended) ๐
When I consume foods low in fiber and high in fat and sugar I get derailed fast, and it’s a chain reaction to how I feel overall
Bloating and irregularity also leaves me sluggish and less energetic
and it can have a big impact on weight loss as well
There is a reason it is always suggested to weigh yourself first thing in the morning on an empty stomach after you’ve gone bathroom!
Out with the Old and in with the New
I am focusing today on how I shift my diet back into the right direction to reset my eating while reducing bloating and irregularity
Three things I am doing right now to feel my best and continue my weight loss journey
I hope these three food related tips help you as well to take back control of your eating habits and get yourself feeling leaner and lighter
So you can continue killing your goals like I know you are capable of!
Reset your Weight Loss Tip 1:
- Increase your intake of fiber rich foods
I think we all know we should be eating more fiber
For Women you should be hitting at least 25 grams per day and Men should be hitting at least 35 grams per day
This ensures we are moving along our food in a timely matter reducing bloating and constipation
We want that!
But when we decide to eat the junky stuff the less chance you have to reach that daily goal and the more chance you have to feel stopped up!
Start adding fiber rich foods to what you are currently eating and work your way up to where you need to be
* Quick Note* We definitely want more fiber, but increasing too fast can cause gastrointestinal distress too if you’re not careful
Start increasing your fiber one step at a time
Adding fiber is easier than you think:
- Add beans to a salad you’re eating to increase fiber and protein
- Toss some avocado onto that salad or include some avocado with eggs in the morning
- Stir in chia seeds to your oatmeal
- Or if you’re ok with a little processed food (I definitely am) check out Fiber One bars! My personal favorite <3
When you start adding in fiber rich foods to your current fare it will add up quickly and you’ll be feeling better in no time!
Reset your Weight Loss Tip 2:
2. Increase your intake of water rich hydrating foods
We all go to water when we want to hydrate and feel our best, but this can be the case for the food you eat as well
Not only do water rich fruits and veggies fill you up with volume at a lower calorie density
You also can increase your body’s hydration as well
This really helps your body move food through, and helps fiber rich foods do their job as well to move things through your body
We should still be getting our recommended water for the day, but adding these water rich foods make it that much easier for your body to debloat and get back to regularity
It all adds up!
Reset your Weight Loss Tip 3:
3. Increase your intake of easy to digest foods
I mentioned above I was left this Holiday season feeling like a dough ball myself
All the delicious butter, cakes, cookies and icing were SO good but had my tummy yelling OH NO
It’s heavy heavy food that leaves you feeling heavy yourself
It takes much longer to digest than something like a salad with lean protein
Shift your body into a lighter and leaner state by incorporating easy to digest foods
Foods you know that do not leave you bloated and weighed down
Another tip is to really simplify your meals till you get back into the swing of things with a calorie deficit
It takes the guesswork out of eating and keeping a meal simple ensures it will be easier to digest as well
Reset your Weight Loss: Bonus Tip
Challenge yourself to move more each day
A simple walk can get your blood flowing, your digestion moving and helps to debloat your body through increased circulation
Blogilates just put out an amazing video to debloat through movement
I know personally that when I eat a heavy meal and feel sluggish, a walk always lifts my spirits and relieves any stomach discomfort I may have
and I like to know movement can bring me some relief, especially if you do tend to have issues with gas and upset stomach!
You can keep it as simple as a 10 minute video or a long easy going walk, whatever you find enjoyable and doable
